Former Blazers assistant Larry Greer accepts ASU assistant gig

FormerPortland Trail Blazers assistant coach Larry Greer has accepted anoffer from Arizona State University to fill the same role under men'shead basketball coach HerbSendek, CSNNW.comhas learned.

Sendekwanted to add a coach to his 2012-13 staff who had previous NBA levelcoaching experience and Greer fits that requirement.

Greerspent four seasons as the Trail Blazers' advanced scout before formerhead coach Nate McMillan promoted him to assistant last offseasonafter Bill Bayno left to become an assistant in Minnesota under RickAdelman.

Greer'scontract with the Trail Blazers expired at the end of June and hisdeal was not renewed along with Bernie Bickerstaff (now a Los AngelesLakers assistant), BobOciepka (now a Los Angeles Clippers assistant), and Buck Williams(still on the market).

KalebCanales is the only coach from last year's team who was selected ontoTerry Stotts' staff. Stotts recently filled out his coaching staffadding Jay Triano, David Vanterpool, Kim Hughes, and Dale Osbourne.

Insix seasons at Arizona State, Sendek has comprised an overall recordof 98-95. Arizona State finished the 2011-12 season 10-21 and 6-12 inPAC 12 Conference play.
