By Chris Haynes, CSNNW.com TrailBlazers Insider (@ChrisBHaynes)Jerry Colangelo director of USAbasketball is in the process of gauging the interest of some ofthe top players in the NBA who'll be willing to play on the Olympicteam in London this coming summer.
USA basketball is scheduled to announceits 18 candidates for the Olympic team by Jan 18.
Colangelo has reached out to severalplayers, but there is one player who would love to be considered whohasn't received a call as of yet.
The Portland Trail Blazers' forwardLaMarcus Aldridge.
It would be an honor to play for mycountry this summer if I was asked to, Aldridge told CSNNW.com. Iwould do it in a heartbeat. Hopefully I get a call.
With Kevin Durant, LeBron James, DwightHoward, and Kobe Bryant set to join the team this summer, USAbasketball will be the favorites going in. Aldridge says he'd bethrilled just going through the process.
I would love to just tryout for theteam, Aldridge said. It's the ultimate goal to represent yourcountry and if I had the privilege, it would be humbling.
Aldridge's game is suited forinternational play. He's versatile enough to where he can guard a bigout on the perimeter and he can hold his own against players likeMemphis' Marc Gasol.
Minnesota's Kevin Love, Los Angeles'Blake Griffin, and New York's Tyson Chandler are expected to receivestrong consideration for their services this summer.
I asked Aldridgewhy he thinks those frontcourt players are being targeted and nothimself.
Those guys have the bignames,Aldridge said. If we keep winning here in Portland, hopefully I'll get recognized, but that's out of my control. I wouldjust want an opportunity to prove that I could help the team out. That's all.
The chances Aldridge receives aninvitation to tryout by the 18th are slim and Aldridgeknows it. Colangelo has been prepping for this summer for sometime now and he has feel for the guys he's looking to bring in.
If anything, hopefully Colangelo hearsabout a pretty good big man in Portland who's all in if given a ring.
I would be ready. Just need a call,Aldridge said.
