ThePortland Trail Blazers have requested permission to speak withIndiana Pacers' General Manager, David Morway, about their open GMvacancy and consent was granted according to a source close to thesituation.

Morway who has been with the Pacers for 12 years and Trail Blazers'President Larry Miller are expected to meet in the next week or so.

Consideredas Larry Bird's right-hand man, Morway was promoted to GM in May of2008 by Bird who is the Pacers' President of BasketballOperations after serving as the team's Senior Vice President ofBasketball Administration.

The third seed Pacers are currently up 2-1 to the sixth seed Orlando Magic in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs thanks to the drafting of a promising guardin Paul George, trades bringing in Darren Collison and George Hill, the free agentacquisition of David West, and the re-signing ofFrank Vogel who is one of the top up-and-coming coaches in thisleague.

Allof these moves were made under Morway's watch.

Morwayhas a unique background in that he's held the role of Assistant tothe President for the San Diego Padres from 1985-88, focusingprimarily on negotiations and contract analysis. He also served asPresident of Professional Excellence Sports, Inc. for three yearsrepresenting over 70 clients.
