Tied tightly to Michael Clay's key chain is a small, white laminate card. Typed on it in black letters is a quote his Mexican grandmother often used: Never travel faster than your Angel can fly.

Words originally spoken by Mother Teresa.

One servant inspires another, who in turn inspires her grandson to do the same......

Remember, every Saturday, he's the General of the one of the highest profile defenses in Oregon history, making plays in front of millions in prime time.

But on Wednesdays (every Wednesday since his sophomore year), he's "Big Mike," placing the spotlight on his friends at the Boys and Girls Club of Emerald Valley in partnership with O Heroes.

A former club member himself, the NorCal native took me along for the afternoon as he applied his leadership skills to a different unit in his Passport to Manhood series, played the backfield of an indoor soccer match, and, while he swears he's no good at math, helped out on grade school homework sessions.

If Michael Clay can make time, the rest of us have no excuse.
