The Oregon State Beavers hosted the University of Washington Huskies for one of its I-5 matchups this season. OSU came off of a tight loss to USC losing 69-68, standing last in the Pac-12 with a 0-5 record.

UW came to Corvallis after a disappointing loss to Utah (1-5) at home and was looking for revenge against the Beavers. The Huskies arrived at Gill Coliseum with a 4-1 record before tipoff.

The Huskies came out looking a bit sluggish after tipoff – maybe from the long drive? The Beavers took advantage of the slow pace by catching the Huskies off guard.

In the end, the usual powerhouse of UW struggled to keep up with the scrappy Beavs and fell 74-66 making it the Beavers FIRST Pac-12 win. Did seeing their coach at the Presidential Inauguration inspire the group of hungry ball players? Who knows, but whatever it was, it worked.

The Beavers celebrated the win by providing the media with five players to choose from during the post-game presser with Starks, Burton, Nelson, Moreland, and Collier.

Joe Burton started off the game for the Beavers with a quick inside shot followed by Ahmad Starks who followed with a jumper of his own and drained a three.

The Huskies responded by trying to use screens in its offense to open up the perimeter, but struggled to find a rhythm early on. OSU took advantage of the missed threes and grabbed 14 defensive rebounds in the first half.

Olaf Schaftenaar came off the bench with back-to-back threes to light up Gill Coliseum. However, UW answered back quickly with a few threes of its own.

At the end of the first half the Beavers lead the Huskies 39-29, despite being ahead by as much as 20 with 4:33 to go in the half.

In the second half Eric Moreland started in place of Jarmal Reid. Moreland worked hard on the boards during the first half as well as defensively. Moreland continued to be a force in the second half on boards, quick hands, and baskets.

The Beavs played consistently during the second half, but the game was within a point with 10:40 left in the game. As the Beavs inched away by making quick inside buckets, the Huskies began to fade fast.
