Portland Trail Blazers small forward Nicolas Batum scored 13 points and posted five rebounds in 35 minutes of action as Team France fails to comeback, losing their opening game to Brazil Saturday.

Batum was 2 for 3 from inside the arc and 2/7 from outside. He also hit 3 of his 4 free throws.

It wasn't an offensive showcase by any means, as Team France's leading scorer, Boris Diaw, registered 15 points.

While Team France shot better than Team Brazil, Anderson Varejao pulled down nine rebounds. He also blocked Diaw's potential game winning shot as time expired.

What's next? Team France will play Egypt on September first as part of the group stage seeding.

The twenty-four participating teams are divided in to four groups. Each team will play all the other teams in its own group (total of five [5] games for each team).

The teams placed 1st-4th in each group will qualify for the Final Phase. Those sixteen teams from the Group Phase will play direct elimination games and will progressively be whittled down until a champion is crowned.
