Wesley: Blazers need to fall back in love with defense
With LaMarcus Aldridge sidelined with a left groin strain, the Portland Trail Blazers will start Dorell Wright in his place tonight against the San Antonio Spurs, a league source informed CSNNW.com.
Inserting Wright into the starting lineup will force the Trail Blazers to play small ball, a lineup Terry Stotts has never used this season.
Damian Lillard, Wesley Matthews, Nicolas Batum, Wright and Robin Lopez will be the starting lineup as Portland host the Spurs.
Wright is averaging 4.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 41 games with the Trail Blazers this season.
His best performance of the season came on the road against one of his former teams, the Philadelphia 76ers. There, Wright scored 15 points, connecting on all five of his shots attempted, which were all from beyond the arc.
Aldridge will be sidelined at least a week with a left groin strain, the team announced Tuesday. Couple that with injuries to both Blazers back-up bigs Joel Freeland and Meyers Leonard. Meanwhile, the Spurs will be shorthanded, as well. San Antonio G Tony Parker (leg) is out, F Tiago Splitter (calf) & F Kawhi Leonard (finger) are questionable tonight versus Portland.
