Blazers lay off seven more in second round of cuts

Share This Post has learned that the Portland Trail Blazers laid off the Vice President of Marketing and six other personnel Friday evening. The VP of Marketing was the highest ranking executive, thus why the only title mentioned in this report.

Blazers' Edge was first to report the layoffs.

Blazers President, Chris McGowan, told Blazers' Edge:

We concluded our second and final round of staffing restructuring which unfortunately included the elimination of seven positions across our organization. These decisions were made because I have determined that we are operating with more staff members than most NBA franchises. Additionally, it has been my goal to restructure the organization by removing layers and creating a more efficient operation. We believe that this round of restructuring completes our major realignments...

This is the second round of layoffs and that makes 10 total dismissals for the newly-hired McGowan.

In early December, McGowan ended the tenure of Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer Gregg Olson, Senior Vice President of Human Resources Traci Reandeau, and Senior Vice President of Tickets and Marketing Michelle Daterman.

Sarah Mensah was the team's Chief Operating Officer until she resigned in November, stating she had mastered everything there was to master at this point in her career. It was widely known she wanted the Trail Blazers' President position before the team hired McGowan. has been told that this is the last batch of layoffs.
