Lillard: Not Concerned w/ Others Expectations, Mine Are Far Greater
Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has accepted Team USA Men's Basketball National Team mini camp invite, his agent Eric Goodwin informed CSNNW.com.
Director of USA Basketball Jerry Colangelo told CSNNW.com in late February that he had his eyes on Lillard as a participant candidate, but added that he hadn't decided yet.
Colangelo eventually did reach out to the soon-to-be Rookie of the Year and he got a commitment.
“I just can't wait to go be a part of it,” Lillard said. “I'm going to go out there and try to prove something.”
The mini camp will run for four days beginning in late July in Las Vegas after NBA Summer League and will consist of 20-22 up-and-coming players that will be split up into two separate teams, blue and white.
Lillard, 22, will have the opportunity to showcase his talents in front of Colangelo and whomever the coaching staff may be during scrimmages and drills. If Lillard fares well, he could be selected to the Men's National Team roster in hopes of competing at the 2014 World Championships.
Also, in late May, Lillard will be in Udine, Italy for six days for NBA Italy's 3-on-3 event, and later in the summer he'll be in China for Basketball without Borders. A busy offseason awaits him.
Lillard completed his first season Wednesday night. He appeared in all 82 games and averaged 19.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 6.5 assists.
