Update from shootaround: Wesley Matthews (ankle) and Nicolas Batum (shoulder) are out tonight. LaMarcus Aldridge (sick) is probable and JJ Hickson is a gametime decision.
The Portland Trail Blazers have always gave the Los Angeles Lakers fits whenever the Lakers stepped foot onto the Rose Garden court, but things may be a little different Wednesday night.
Yesterday after practice, Trail Blazers Head Coach said Wesley Matthews (ankle) is out and Nicolas Batum (shoulder), JJ Hickson (sore lower back) are doubtful tonight versus the Lakers.
Rookie Will Barton will get the start in place of Matthews as the Trail Blazers starting lineup will likely consist of Damian Lillard, Will Barton, Victor Claver, LaMarcus Aldridge and Meyers Leonard.
That would be a total of four rookies in that starting five, something the Trail Blazers have never done in the franchises history.
And in all possibility, you might see a starting five of all rookies.
LaMarcus Aldridge tweeted late Tuesday night that he is dealing with migraines. Well, if those persist, Joel Freeland could get the start. The Lakers couldn't have it any easier in their second game of a back-to-back.
The Lakers (41-37) are a half game up on the Utah Jazz as they are holding down the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference standings. They barely got by the New Orleans Hornets 104-96 at Staples Center on Tuesday night.
It took some big-game heroics from Kobe Bryant and his 30 points to seal the deal.
The Trail Blazers (33-44) would love to play a huge part in sending the Lakers home early, but the chances of that happening aren't looking good right about now.
Tonight's game will be televised on KGW and 1190 AM/102.3 FM KEX will have the radio call at 7:00.
