Kyrie Irving: Separating Myself from Group
LAS VEGAS – The White Team, led by Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, defeated the Blue Team 128-106 in the USA Basketball Showcase at Thomas & Mack Center.
The was little doubt who the best player on the court was – Kyrie Irving . The sensational guard erupted for 16 of his game-high 23 points in the first half. He was an efficient six-of-eight from the field and also had a game-high seven assists.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis showed off his new, improved jump-shot to the tune of 22 points to go along with seven rebounds. However, it wasn't enough for the Blue Team.
Davis' teammate, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard started the game 3-for-4, but missed his next eight field goal attempts before finishing with nine points on four-of-14 shooting in 25 minutes. The Rookie of the Year also dished out three assists.
USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said he will narrow the pool of players down to 25-30 sometime in January in preparation for the World Cup. Lillard is expected to be among that group being that Colangelo said he would like a young group of talent to remain in the USA Basketball program.
