You've probably seen the purported Oregon State logo out there somewhere on the Internet by now. It's been floating around for more than a week.
On March 4, the university is planning to reveal its new Nike-created logo, font and branding but for now, I'd like to know what you think of this Beaver logo. Again, nobody is quite sure if this is the real deal or some sort of hoax. But if this is going to be the OSU Beaver logo moving forward, what do you think of it?
I've heard from many Oregon State fans, grads and boosters already and it seems to me that they almost universally hate it. Do you? Are they overreacting?
For my part, I'm not sure what you can do with a beaver, when it comes to branding and even with an on-field mascot. Certainly you can't use a real one on a leash, the way schools do with other animals. I'd almost advocate a return to the old, friendly, smiling Benny Beaver. The Ducks have found a lot of success with a smiling, happy mascot. In fact, their Robo-Duck thing was such a disaster it didn't last a full season. The mean, ferocious kind of thing doesn't work very well in the long run. Lovable works better, I think.
But back to the question at hand today -- does this logo do anything for you? Anything positive, that is?
