Haynes & Jaynes: Putting a Bow on Offseason
ORLANDO – Free agent forward Ivan Johnson has been engaged in preliminary conversations with six NBA teams, a source close to Johnson relayed to CSNNW.com.
As reported by ESPNNewYork.com, the Knicks are one of the interested parties. However, the same source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said there isn't anything serious with these discussions at this point with Greg Oden, Lamar Odom and Antawn Jamison still out on the market.
The source added that there is no front-runner for the services of Johnson.
Oden is expected to make his decision today, which will begin the big-man domino effect. As of Friday at 1:00 pm Eastern Standard Time, Oden's agent Mike Conley Sr., says no decision has been made. A decision will be made later this evening.
I'm being told by a league source that Oden's weight is down to an impressive 275 pounds.
Johnson, 29, shoots a career 51.7 percent from the field while averaging 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.8 steals in 15.8 minutes per game. He has played all two of his NBA seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. The physical power forward had stops in the NBA Development League and in Korea prior.
Oden, 25, has played in 82 career games after being taken with the No. 1 overall pick in 2007 by the Portland Trail Blazers. He has a career average of 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 22.1 minutes per game.
