The Portland Trail Blazers (23-32) and Utah Jazz (34-22) will tip-off at 6:00pm on Wednesday night in Salt Lake City in the Blazers final contest before the NBA All-Star break begins.
After Monday’s 109-104 overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks, the Blazers are riding a two game losing streak. Against the Hawks, Portland scored the first seven points in OT, but then could not score after that with Atlanta outscoring them in overtime, 12-7.
The Jazz have lost three games in a row after dropping Monday’s game at home to the LA Clippers. It was an 88-72 win for the Clippers with LA holding the Jazz to 32.2% shooting as a team for the game. Gordon Hayward was held to seven points on 2-of-12 shooting. Derick Favors was the leading scorer in the loss with 13 points. The Jazz scored just 15 points in each of the second and third quarters.
Looking at Utah’s leading scorers this season, Hayward leads the way with 22.2 points per game, followed by George Hill’s 17.5 points per game and then Rodney Hood is averaging 13.7 points.
The Blazers opened the regular season against the Jazz on October 25th in the only other meeting between these two teams this season. Portland beat Utah, 113-104 behind Damian Lillard’s 39 points.
The newest Trail Blazer, Jusuf Nurkic, went through Blazer practice on Tuesday and will make his debut vs. the Jazz on Wednesday. After being traded to Portland from Denver on Sunday, the 22 year-old is eager to get out on the court with Lillard and CJ McCollum, saying after practice on Tuesday it is the, “first time in my life I get to play with those kind of guards.”
With the Nuggets, Nurkic averaged eight points and 5.8 rebounds.
The Trail Blazers announced on Tuesday that Al-Farouq Aminu (left knee sprain) is listed as doubtful for Wednesday’s game at Utah.
